Day trips and longer runs from Atlanta

Atlanta sits within a few hours of most of the Southeast, which makes it one of the easiest cities in the country to run group travel out of. Drive times assume a departure outside rush hour.

What we know about moving groups in Atlanta

Atlanta is not a difficult city to run a coach in, but it punishes optimistic scheduling. These are the four things that decide whether your group arrives on time

Build in traffic time

The Downtown Connector and the I-285 perimeter both slow badly between roughly 6:30 and 9:30 in the morning and 3:30 to 7 in the evening. For anything with a fixed start time, we plan 30 to 45 minutes of buffer rather than hoping.

Coach parking downtown

Very few downtown venues let a 45-foot coach sit outside for the afternoon. Most groups drop off, the bus parks elsewhere, and it returns for pickup. We confirm where that is when you book, and factor the repositioning time into the hours.

Airport pickups

Hartsfield-Jackson is the busiest airport in the world and groups rarely clear it together. We track the flight and stage the vehicle rather than starting the clock at the scheduled landing time, which is where most airport bookings go wrong.

Book around the big weekends

Convention weekends, home game days, festivals in Piedmont Park and the July 4th road race all pull vehicles out of the market and close streets downtown. If your date lands on one, book months ahead rather than weeks.

Give us the coach entrance

Stadiums, the World Congress Center and most campuses have a bus entrance separate from the one guests use, sometimes on another street. Exact addresses at booking mean your driver arrives at the right gate first time

Suburbs cost less than you expect

Plenty of operators are based in Marietta, Duluth and south of the airport. A pickup in Alpharetta or Stockbridge is often cheaper than downtown, because the vehicle has less empty mileage to cover before it reaches you.

Vehicles available in Atlanta

These three cover most Atlanta bookings. Party buses, limo buses and luxury coaches are also available across the metro, with more supply on weekdays than Saturday nights.

Charter bus

The most common Atlanta booking. Restroom, reclining seats and luggage bays, which matter on the run to Savannah or Nashville as much as on a convention shuttle.

Mini coach

Better suited to Midtown and Buckhead, where a full size coach struggles for kerb space. The usual pick for wedding shuttles and smaller corporate groups.

Passenger van

Fits hotel canopies and airport pickup zones without a special manoeuvre. Most requested for executive transfers between the airport and Buckhead or Midtown.

Renting a bus in Atlanta

Atlanta has more charter operators than most Southeastern cities, which is good news for price. What it does not have is easy coach access downtown, and that is where most of the planning effort goes.

What Atlanta bus rental costs

Atlanta sits around the national average rather than at the expensive end. A full size charter bus commonly runs between $120 and $250 an hour with a five hour minimum, and a mini coach a little less. Rates climb for Saturday evenings, convention weekends and home game days, and they climb hardest between April and June when graduations, proms and wedding season overlap. Our full breakdown by vehicle is on the pricing page, and every figure there is an estimate until we have your itinerary.

Where your bus comes from

We work with operators based across the metro rather than running our own depot, which is why a pickup in Marietta is dispatched from the north side and an airport run is dispatched from the south. Empty mileage before your trip is a real cost, so the closer the operator sits to your pickup, the better your quote. All of them hold current federal operating authority and commercial insurance, checked before they can accept a booking.

Booking around Atlanta's calendar

Three things empty the local vehicle pool faster than anything else: major conventions at the World Congress Center, home weekends for the Falcons, Hawks and Braves, and the run of graduations through May. If your date collides with one, six to eight weeks of notice is not enough. Ask early and hold a soft reservation, which costs nothing.

Getting groups in and out of Hartsfield-Jackson

Group arrivals almost never clear the airport together, particularly when people land on separate flights. We track arrivals and stage the vehicle rather than parking it on the meter from the scheduled landing time, and we agree a single pickup point in advance so nobody is wandering between terminals with luggage. For departures, plan to arrive earlier than you would with a car.

Atlanta bus rental questions

If yours is not here, call and ask. Our agents book Atlanta trips every day.

How much does it cost to rent a bus in Atlanta?

A full size charter bus typically runs $120 to $250 per hour with a five hour minimum, and a mini coach slightly less. Day rates and per mile pricing apply to longer trips. Your actual figure depends on your route, date, pickup point and vehicle, so the ranges on our pricing page are a planning tool rather than a quote.

Most downtown venues cannot hold a coach on site for hours at a time, so the usual pattern is drop off, park elsewhere, return for pickup. Hotels hosting a room block will often allow overnight parking, and several large venues have designated motorcoach areas. We confirm the arrangement for your specific venues before the trip rather than leaving the driver to work it out.

Four to six weeks covers a normal weekday booking. For April through June, convention weekends, home game days and festival dates, aim for three to six months. Those dates pull vehicles out of the local pool across the whole metro, not just downtown.

Yes, across the full metro and into north Georgia. Suburban pickups are often slightly cheaper than downtown, since operators based in Marietta, Duluth or south of the airport have less empty mileage to cover before reaching you.

On party buses and limo buses, generally yes for passengers of legal age, subject to Georgia law and the operator’s own policy. Standard charter buses usually do not permit open containers. Mention it when you request a quote and we will only send options that allow it.

Yes. Nashville, Chattanooga, Birmingham, Charleston and Orlando are all regular runs for us. Trips beyond roughly nine hours of driving need a relief driver, and overnight trips include driver lodging. Both are priced into the quote up front rather than added afterwards.
