12 passenger bus rental

The smallest vehicle we rent with a professional driver. Usually a high-roof passenger van or a compact minibus, it seats twelve plus the driver, fits under most hotel canopies, and costs less per hour than anything larger. Ideal when the group is too big for two cars and too small to justify a coach.

Is 12 seats the right size?

What is on board

A 12 passenger bus is built for short, practical journeys rather than long-haul comfort. Here is what it does and does not carry.

Forward-facing seats

Cloth or leather bench and captain seating in rows, with a belt on every position.

Rear cargo area

Behind the last row. Takes six to eight cases, which is the binding constraint on a full vehicle.

Air conditioning

Front and rear climate zones on most vehicles, which matters more than it sounds in summer.

USB and power

On most newer vehicles, though not at every seat. Worth confirming if your group is working en route.

Bluetooth audio

Connect a phone for music on the way. There is no PA system on a vehicle this size.

ADA options

Lift-equipped models exist at this size but are limited, so request one when you first ask for a quote.

No restroom

Nothing at this size has one. For journeys over about two hours, plan a comfort stop or size up to a coach.

WiFi is rare

Uncommon on vehicles this size. If your group needs connectivity, a mini coach is the smaller step up.

12 passenger bus rental prices

This is the cheapest vehicle we rent by the hour, and the most expensive per passenger. That trade-off is the whole decision at this size.

Bookings are usually quoted hourly with a four hour minimum, billed from when the driver reports for duty rather than from your first pickup. That minimum catches people out on short airport runs: a 90 minute transfer is still charged at four hours, because the driver cannot take another job around it.

Longer journeys move to a daily or per mile rate. Full rate tables and worked examples are on the pricing page.

These are estimated ranges, not quotes. Your price depends on route, dates, city and availability. Send an itinerary for a firm figure.

Before you book a 12 passenger bus

More groups get this size wrong than any other, and almost always in the same three ways. None of them are obvious until you are standing in a car park with luggage.

Twelve seats does not mean twelve comfortable seats with bags

The rear cargo area holds six to eight suitcases. If all twelve passengers are flying in with a checked bag each, the maths does not work, and the usual fix on the day is putting cases on the back row, which then seats ten. If your group is arriving by air, tell us at quote stage and we will either size up or arrange a luggage trailer.

Count the driver, and count the extras

A 12 passenger bus seats twelve people plus the driver, so the driver does not take one of your seats. What does take seats is the two colleagues who join late, the tour guide, or the parent who decides to come along. Twelve is a hard ceiling, and the vehicle cannot be stretched on the morning.

It is small, but it is still tall

A high-roof passenger van clears most hotel canopies and parks comfortably in ordinary surface lots. What it usually cannot do is enter a multi-storey car park, since typical deck clearance sits below the roof height. If your pickup or drop-off is inside a parking structure, tell us and we will plan a kerbside point instead.

No restroom changes the itinerary

Nothing at this size has one, so a three hour drive needs a planned comfort stop, and that stop is billable time like any other. For journeys over about two hours with a full vehicle, a mini coach with a restroom often works out better even though the hourly rate is higher.

When to book something bigger instead

If your group is over about ten people with luggage, travelling more than two hours, or likely to grow, the 18 or 25 passenger minibus is the better booking. The hourly difference is modest, and it removes every problem above. Our full fleet comparison shows how the sizes stack up.

12 passenger bus questions

If yours is not here, an agent can answer it on the phone in a couple of minutes.

Does the 12 include the driver?

No. A 12 passenger bus seats twelve passengers plus a professional driver, so you get all twelve seats. This differs from self-drive rental, where a 15 passenger van typically counts the driver as one of the fifteen. With us the driver is always additional and always included in the price.

Around six to eight standard suitcases in the rear cargo area, plus small bags at passengers’ feet. A full twelve people each with a checked bag will not fit. If everyone is flying in, say so at quote stage and we will size up or add a luggage trailer rather than discovering the problem at the kerb.

No, and there is not one on any vehicle at this size. For trips longer than about two hours we build in a comfort stop, which counts as billable time, or recommend a mini coach where a restroom is available on some models.

Usually not. A high-roof passenger van stands around nine to ten feet, and most multi-storey decks are signed lower than that. Tell us if your pickup is inside a structure and we will agree a kerbside point outside it in advance.

Typically four hours, which is shorter than the five hour minimum on larger vehicles. It still applies to short airport transfers, because the driver’s day is committed to you either way. If your trip is genuinely brief, ask about a point to point transfer rate.

Generally not. Standard passenger vehicles follow state open container laws, and most operators do not permit alcohol. If your group wants drinks on board, a party bus or limo bus is the vehicle to ask about, and we can quote one at a similar passenger count.

This size is the most widely available vehicle in the network, so almost certainly yes. Supply tightens on Friday and Saturday evenings and around major event weekends, so book earlier for weekend travel than you would for a weekday transfer.
